Integrated biomarker responses of rice associated with grain yield in copper-contaminated soil

Than Htwe et al.

Summary: Exposure to high copper concentrations resulted in a decline in photosynthetic capacity, delays in flowering, lipid peroxidation, and reduced leaf area for rice. Higher copper concentrations also led to a significant decrease in rice grain yield. The integrated biomarker response values reflected the severity of copper toxicity, showing a decreasing trend from tillering stage to harvesting stage.

Hyperspectral and genome-wide association analyses of leaf phosphorus status in local Thai indica rice

Sompop Pinit et al.

Summary: In this study, the leaf phosphate content, plant growth, and reflectance spectra of Thai rice landrace varieties were evaluated under different phosphorus supply conditions. The results showed a high correlation between phosphate content and reflectance ratios in Pi-deficient leaves. Artificial neural network models were developed to classify P deficiency levels and predict Pi content. Genome-wide association study identified loci associated with spectral reflectance traits and leaf Pi content. Hyperspectral measurement offers a promising non-destructive approach for predicting plant P status and screening for high P use efficiency varieties.

Trade-Offs in Phosphorus Acquisition Strategies of Five Common Tree Species in a Tropical Forest of Puerto Rico

Daniela Yaffar et al.

Summary: This study found that successful tree species in tropical lowlands have different strategies to acquire phosphorus from the soil, including adjusting fine-root traits. The research revealed that pioneer and non-pioneer species adopt different root trait expression strategies, and most of the root trait expressions remained stable after hurricane disturbances.

Flooding overshadows phosphorus availability in controlling the intensity of arbuscular mycorrhizal colonization in Sangyod Muang Phatthalung lowland indica rice

Lompong Klinnawee et al.

Summary: Phosphorus availability and soil water are key factors influencing the symbiotic relationship between rice and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF). This study found that water availability plays a primary role in shaping AMF communities in rice roots in the SMP region.

Phenolic compounds: current industrial applications, limitations and future challenges

Bianca R. Albuquerque et al.

Summary: Phenolic compounds are natural bioactive molecules mainly found in plant tissues, with interesting bioactivities such as antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antiproliferative activities. Despite their potential applicability in various industries, there are still issues that need to be addressed, including improving bioavailability and stability through sustainable extraction and refinement technologies. This review focuses on recent advances in the applications of phenolic compounds in different technological and medicinal areas, as well as techniques to enhance their sustainable resourcing, stability, and bioavailability.
