Diffusion and sedimentation in colloidal suspensions using multiparticle collision dynamics with a discrete particle model

Yashraj M. Wani et al.

Summary: We studied self-diffusion and sedimentation in colloidal suspensions of nearly hard spheres using the MD+MPCD simulation method. The results suggest that MD+MPCD provides a reasonable description of hydrodynamic interactions in colloidal suspensions and can be conveniently extended to more complex shapes.

Anisotropic dynamics of magnetic colloidal cubes studied by x-ray photon correlation spectroscopy

Antara Pal et al.

Summary: The study investigates the influence of external magnetic fields on the anisotropic collective dynamics of core/shell colloidal cubes with hematite cores and silica shells. Results show that these micrometer-sized particles self-assemble into chains and sediment to form higher-order structures, with dynamics following compressed exponential behavior in different directions with respect to the external field, indicating hyperdiffusive behavior. The anomalous dynamics are believed to be caused by the inhomogeneous distribution of stress points resulting from external field-induced alignment of chains.

Translatory and rotatory motion of exchange-bias capped Janus particles controlled by dynamic magnetic field landscapes

Rico Huhnstock et al.

Summary: Magnetic Janus particles exhibit fast and directed particle transport and rotation in water medium over prototypical parallel-stripe domains when manipulated by a magnetic field landscape, and a combination or separation of these motion types can be achieved by modifying the frequency and strength of the applied pulse sequences.

Unravelling Magnetic Nanochain Formation in Dispersion for In Vivo Applications

Nileena Nandakumaran et al.

Summary: This study investigates the self-assembly of iron oxide nanoparticles into chains in a dispersion, highlighting the reversible formation of chains under specific magnetic fields. The visualization of real-space assemblies of IONPs in dispersions serves as a novel tool for biomedical researchers, allowing rapid exploration of IONPs behavior and extraction of equilibrium structure parameters.

Coupling morphological and magnetic anisotropy for assembling tetragonal colloidal crystals

Zhiwei Li et al.

Summary: The combination of morphological and magnetic anisotropy in colloidal assembly leads to the creation of unconventional secondary structures. Magnetite nanorods interact along critical angles and assemble into body-centered tetragonal colloidal crystals, forming attractive and repulsive domains. The perfect tetragonal phase with brilliant structural colors is attributed to the slow assembly kinetics and the presence of a critical angle in the attractive domain.
