Extracting ammonium halides by solvent from the hybrid perovskites with various dimensions to promote the crystallization of CsPbI3 perovskite

Hailiang Wang et al.

Summary: The inorganic CsPbI3 perovskite, with suitable optical bandgap and high chemical stability, has shown great potential as a light absorber in perovskite solar cells. However, the phase instability and composition manipulation of CsPbI3 perovskite film have been major challenges. In this study, a new strategy, involving the extraction of ammonium halide by solvent, was developed to address these issues. The extraction of ammonium halide was found to promote the crystallization of CsPbI3 perovskite and improve the film quality. By combining this method with conventional annealing, the composition of the CsPbI3 perovskite film could be finely manipulated. Moreover, the resulting CsPbI3 perovskite solar cells achieved an efficiency of 15.35%, setting a new record for inorganic C-PSCs.

Atomistic Mechanism of Surface-Defect Passivation: Toward Stable and Efficient Perovskite Solar Cells

Weiyi Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, the passivation effects of 2-MP and 2-MDEP on iodine vacancy MAPbI(3) were comprehensively investigated using density functional theory calculations and ab initio molecular dynamics simulations. It was found that 2-MDEP showed stronger adsorption and localized charges on Pb atoms, leading to improved activation barriers for ion migrations, structural stability, and restrained nonradiative recombination. Moreover, 2-MDEP exhibited more remarkable shielding effects against moisture compared to 2-MP.

Revisiting the Iodine Vacancy Surface Defects to Rationalize Passivation Strategies in Perovskite Solar Cells

Jing Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of surface iodine vacancies (V-I) on perovskite solar cells. The research finds that V-I in the outermost layer are benign, while those near the surface can be detrimental. Illumination promotes the diffusion of V-I from the outermost layer, making them harmful. The passivation of V-I in the second layer and outermost layer can improve the performance of solar cells.

Summary: Cesium lead triiodide (CsPbI3) has a desirable band gap and high thermal stability, but its power conversion efficiency (PCE) is lower than that of organic cation-based halide perovskites with identical band gaps. The PCE of CsPbI3 solar cells is mainly governed by the surface morphology and defect passivation of its thin films.
