CISS-Based Label-Free Novel Electrochemical Impedimetric Detection of UVC-Induced DNA Damage

Debabrata Mishra et al.

Summary: In this work, the authors demonstrate a label-free electrochemical impedimetric detection method for radiation-induced DNA damage using chiral-induced spin selectivity (CISS) and electrons' spin as a novel sensing tool. They prepared self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of short ds-DNA on arrays of multilayer thin film devices and exposed them to UVC radiation to induce structural perturbations in DNA. The detection of DNA damage was achieved by recording spin-dependent electrochemical impedimetric spectra, taking into account the correlation between charge-transfer resistance (Rct) and the spin selectivity of electrons through DNA. The authors achieved a limit of detection of 10 picomolar concentrations of DNA, and the method showed robustness against electronic signal perturbation.

Helicity Control in the Aggregation of Achiral Squaraine Dyes in Solution and Thin Films

Andreas T. Rosch et al.

Summary: This study reported two novel chiral squaraine dyes and their achiral counterparts, which were aggregated in solution and in thin films. The co-assembled structures exhibited exceptional photophysical properties, with the circular dichroism reaching a maximum when just 25% of the chiral dye was present in the mixture.

Radiation-Induced Effect on Spin-Selective Electron Transfer through Self-Assembled Monolayers of ds-DNA

Neeraj Bangruwa et al.

Summary: The study investigates the impact of gamma radiation on DNA stability and spin-selective electron transfer. Results show that exposure to gamma radiation leads to a gradual decrease in DNA's spin filtering efficiency, possibly due to conformational perturbation or structural damage in DNA molecules.
