Superhigh sensing response and selectivity for hydrogen gas using PdPt@ZnO core-shell nanoparticles: Unique effect of alloyed ingredient from experimental and theoretical investigations

Thuy T. D. Nguyen et al.

Summary: This paper reports the synthesis of alloyed PdPt@ZnO core-shell nanoparticles for hydrogen sensing. The PdPt@ZnO sensor exhibits excellent performance with fast response and recovery times, high selectivity, and long-term stability. These improvements are attributed to the high catalytic activity of the alloyed PdPt core, high content of oxygen vacancies and chemisorbed oxygen in the ZnO shell, and facile electron transfer between the core and shell.

Selective, sensitive, and stable NO2 gas sensor based on porous ZnO nanosheets

Myung Sik Choi et al.

Summary: Porous ZnO nanosheets were synthesized using a solvothermal method for high sensitivity detection of NO2 gas, showing high selectivity and stability. Enhanced response was attributed to the synergetic effects of high surface area, ZnO/ZnO homojunctions, and structural defects.

Gas sensing behavior of ZnO toward H2 at temperatures below 300°C and its dependence on humidity and Pt-decoration

I-Kai Cheng et al.

Summary: The sensing reaction mechanism of ZnO towards H-2 was investigated, showing distinct response features at temperatures above 150 degrees C. Humidity affects sensor performance, while Pt decoration greatly improves sensor performance in both dry and humid environments. This improvement is attributed to hydrogen spillover from Pt nanoparticles to the ZnO support.

An efficient hydrogen gas sensor based on hierarchical Ag/ZnO hollow microstructures

Sonalika Agarwal et al.

Summary: The design of hierarchical zinc oxide (ZnO) microstructures modified with silver (Ag) nanoparticles has been proven effective in enhancing hydrogen gas sensing performance. The Ag/ZnO hollow microstructures showed superior sensitivity, fast response and recovery time, as well as good stability, even at low hydrogen gas concentrations. This enhancement in sensing performance is attributed to the chemical and electronic sensitization effect of Ag nanoparticles, leading to a more sensitive sensor with improved selectivity.

Triethylamine gas sensor based on Pt-functionalized hierarchical ZnO microspheres

Jingjing Liu et al.

Summary: Unique nanosized-Pt-decorated hierarchical ZnO microspheres were prepared, showing excellent TEA gas sensing performance with a response value of 242, a working temperature as low as 200 degrees Celsius, and good selectivity and long-term stability. The synergistic effect between Pt and ZnO, as well as the electron-sinker effect of Pt, are the reasons for its superior performance.

Effect of core and surface area toward hydrogen gas sensing performance using Pd@ZnO core-shell nanoparticles

Thuy T. D. Nguyen et al.

Summary: A versatile hydrogen gas sensor was fabricated using Pd@ZnO core-shell nanoparticles synthesized through a hydrothermal route. The optimal sensor, Pd@ZnO-2, demonstrated superior performance compared to Pd@ZnO-1 and pure ZnO, with higher response, faster response and recovery times to 100 ppm hydrogen at 350 degrees C. The high selectivity of Pd@ZnO-2 sensor to hydrogen can be attributed to the higher metallic Pd content remaining in the sample after calcination in argon.

Plasma-induced oxygen vacancies enabled ultrathin ZnO films for highly sensitive detection of triethylamine

Zishuo Li et al.

Summary: This study presents a high-performance gas sensor based on plasma-etched zinc oxide thin films, with a thickness of 20 nm deposited on SiO2 wafers by ALD. The zinc oxide sensor exhibits n-type conductivity and sensitivity to triethylamine, with the sensor response affected by annealing temperature. Ar plasma treatment results in improved sensor performance by generating oxygen vacancies.

Core-double shell ZnO@In2O3@ZnO hollow microspheres for superior ethanol gas sensing

Shichao Wang et al.

Summary: Core-double shell-structured ZnO@In2O3@ZnO microspheres were successfully synthesized by decorating In2O3 and ZnO on the surface of ZnO hollow microspheres, exhibiting excellent gas sensing properties with high response to gases like ethanol, especially at low concentrations. This superior gas sensing performance was attributed to its high specific surface area, abundant surface defects, and radial electronic modulation mechanism.
