Development of flexible paper substrate sensor based on 2D WS2 with S defects for room-temperature NH3 gas sensing

Ziyu Qin et al.

Summary: This study presents an enhanced room-temperature flexible paper-substrate sensor based on 2D tungsten disulfide (WS2) with S defects, which are synthesized by chemical exfoliation. The results show that WS2 with rich S defects exhibits nearly three times higher response intensity to NH3 gas than highly crystalline WS2. The flexible sensors demonstrate fast response, high stability, and multifunctional sensing detection for breathing detection and bending experiments.

C-HMIDLINE HORIZONTAL ELLIPSISS hydrogen bonding interactions

Hazel A. Fargher et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that C-H midline bonds are often overlooked but important stabilizing interactions, meeting the definition of hydrogen bonding. By comparing with traditional hydrogen bond donors and acceptors, as well as investigating the effect of metal bonding, the generality of C-H midline hydrogen bonding can be established and used for identification in diverse systems.

Estimated global cancer incidence in the oldest adults in 2018 and projections to 2050

Sophie Pilleron et al.

Summary: This study utilized GLOBOCAN estimates to describe the cancer incidence among adults aged 80 years or older globally and regionally in 2018, projecting the trends to 2050. The most common cancer sites for this age group globally were breast, lung, and colon for females, and prostate, lung, and colon for males. It is estimated that by 2050, there will be a significant increase in new cancer cases among adults aged 80 years or older worldwide, posing challenges to healthcare systems and emphasizing the need for tailored cancer control policies for the elderly population.

Theoretical evaluation and experimental investigation of layered 2H/1T-phase MoS2 and its reduced graphene-oxide hybrids for hydrogen evolution reactions

Dhanasekaran Vikraman et al.

Summary: A one-pot reaction was used to prepare mixed phase molybdenum sulfide and reduced graphene oxide hybrids as electrocatalysts, showing unique characteristics for hydrogen evolution reaction in acidic and alkaline solutions. The hybrids exhibited low overpotentials and achieved high current density with small Tafel slopes, demonstrating robust hydrogen evolution reaction performance over 24 hours in acid and alkaline solutions. Density functional theory calculations confirmed the improved experimental results, indicating the potential of the hybrids in electrocatalytic applications.

Selective Discrimination of VOCs Applying Gas Sensing Kinetic Analysis over a Metal Oxide-Based Chemiresistive Gas Sensor

Snehanjan Acharyya et al.

Summary: Semiconducting metal oxide-based gas sensors lack selectivity due to responsiveness to various gases. Gas sensing kinetic analysis was employed to precisely identify volatile organic compounds, with excellent sensor response and high sensitivity observed. The Eley-Rideal model was utilized for theoretical fitting and calculation of characteristic kinetic properties to discriminate among different VOCs.
