High-Performance Wearable Sensor Inspired by the NeuronConduction Mechanism through Gold-Induced Sulfur Vacancies

Xinwei Chen et al.

Summary: This study presents a novel design of gas sensor based on neuron-mimic architecture, which exhibits high sensitivity and excellent selectivity. By introducing gold quantum dots-induced lattice deviation of S atoms in Bi2S3 nanosheets, a sensor network with abundant defect sites is formed. The fabricated sensor shows significantly enhanced response value and ultrafast response/recovery performance in detecting NO2, thanks to the favorable gas adsorption and charge transfer properties arising from S vacancies. Additionally, the sensor is successfully integrated into a wearable device for real-time visual detection of target gases.

Boosting photocatalytic hydrogen evolution: Orbital redistribution of ultrathin ZnIn2S4 nanosheets via atomic defects

Qingjie Luan et al.

Summary: Defect engineering is an efficient strategy to improve the photocatalytic activity of semiconductor photocatalysts by inducing photo-excited electrons and holes to different surfaces. In this study, a rapid heating-up hydrothermal technique was used to regulate the crystal growth of ZnIn2S4, resulting in the successful preparation of ultrathin ZnIn2S4 nanosheets with In defect-rich interlayer and perfect surface layers. The presence of In defects separates the oxidation and reduction sites on opposite sides of the nanosheets and increases the density of states, leading to enhanced photocatalytic hydrogen evolution rate.

Effect of S vacancy in Cu3SnS4 on high selectivity and activity of photocatalytic CO2 reduction

Junyan Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, Cu3SnS4 with S vacancy and different ratios of Cu(I/II) and Sn(II/IV) was designed for photocatalytic CO2 reduction with high selectivity and activity. The conduction band (CB) position dominated by the Sn (II) 5p orbital of Cu3SnS4 could be regulated via controlling the content of Sn(II). The presence of Cu(I) and Sn(IV) in crystal lattice acted as the adsorption sites of CO2 and H2O, promoting further protonation for CH4 generation. The introduction of S vacancy led to the appearance of Cu(I) and Sn(II), inhibiting electron-hole recombination and improving reactivity and selectivity of CH4 production.
