A Density Functional Theory study for adsorption and sensing of 5-Fluo-rouracil on Ni-doped boron nitride nanotube

Numan Yuksel et al.

Summary: In this study, Ni-doped (8,0) BNNT structure was investigated as a sensor and adsorbent for 5-FU molecule using Density Functional Theory. The adsorption of 5-FU on Ni-BNNT was observed in all configurations, with calculated adsorption energy and enthalpy values. Charge transfer, HOMO-LUMO gap changes, and workfunction changes were also studied, showing the potential for Ni-BNNT as a sensor for 5-FU.

Adsorption Behavior of Pd-Doped PtS2 Monolayer Upon SF6 Decomposed Species and the Effect of Applied Electric Field

Hao Cui et al.

Summary: In this work, a PtS2 monolayer with desirable gas sensing property is suggested for detection of three SF6 decomposed species, and Pd-doping is proposed to enhance its sensing performance. Our results show that Pd dopant is stably anchored on the PtS2 surface and significantly improves the adsorption performance of the monolayer for SF6 decomposed species. Moreover, the applied electric field can effectively modulate the charge-transfer for the gas adsorption systems, indicating the strong potential of the Pd-PtS2 monolayer as a field-effect transistor gas sensor. These findings are meaningful for the development of novel sensing materials in electrical engineering and ensuring the good operation of power systems.

Gallium and scandium doping effect on the sensing performance of aluminum phosphide nanotubes toward toxic ethylene oxide gas

Saade Abdalkareem Jasim et al.

Summary: The effect of Ga and Sc-doping on the sensing performance of an AlP nanotube in detecting ethylene oxide was investigated. The results showed that the doping of Ga and Sc significantly increased the energy of adsorption for ethylene oxide, leading to a higher sensing response. Among the two dopants, Sc had a greater impact on the sensing performance, resulting in a higher sensing response.

Adsorption of ethylene oxide on doped monolayers of MoS2: A DFT study

Maciej J. Szary

Summary: DFT calculations were used to investigate the doping of Ti, Ni, Pd, and Si atoms into an S-vacancy of MoS2 monolayer and their impact on sensitivity towards ethylene oxide. The study found that the doped MoS2 showed stronger binding with EO and an adsorption-sensitive band gap, suggesting potential for detection. Additionally, different modes of detection were proposed for Ti and Si doped MoS2.

Theoretical investigations of hydrogen gas sensing and storage capacity of graphene-based materials: A review

Mehak Singla et al.

Summary: The excessive usage of fossil fuel energy has led to the development of alternative fuels, with hydrogen emerging as a promising option due to its production from renewable sources and emission of only heat and water upon combustion. Graphene-based materials, with their exceptional properties, are being explored for hydrogen adsorption and storage, although modifications are needed to meet specific requirements. Studies on the capacity of graphene materials for hydrogen storage through physisorption or chemisorption are being conducted using Density Functional theory, showing promising results for the potential sensing ability of the material.
