Heat Stroke Prevention in Hot Specific Occupational Environment Enhanced by Supervised Machine Learning with Personalized Vital Signs

Takunori Shimazaki et al.

Summary: In this study, a new personalized vital sign index was proposed to adjust the WBGT at the individual level by combining the personalized heat strain temperature (pHST) index and temperature/humidity measurement data. A wearable device equipped with a pHST meter, a heart rate monitor, and an accelerometer was used. Supervised machine learning based on the proposed personalized vital index was introduced to improve the prevention accuracy. The developed system achieved a prevention accuracy of 85.2% in a hot occupational experiment, with a true positive rate of 96.3% and a true negative rate of 83.7%.

A Novel Non-Invasive Thermometer for Continuous Core Body Temperature: Comparison with Tympanic Temperature in an Acute Stroke Clinical Setting

Milos Ajcevic et al.

Summary: This study investigated the use of a novel wireless non-invasive heat flux-based thermometer in acute stroke patients and compared it with the currently used infrared tympanic temperature readings. The results showed that the heat flux-based thermometer accurately predicted core temperature and had good agreement with the tympanic temperature measurements.

Computed and Measured Core Temperature of Patients With Heatstroke Transported From Their Homes via Ambulance

Akito Takada et al.

Summary: The number of heat-related illnesses is increasing due to global warming, and elderly people account for half of the patients in Japan. Monitoring core temperature is crucial for healthcare, but it is difficult to achieve. This study assessed the core temperature of elderly patients transported to hospitals from their homes and found that most patients had high core temperatures. However, there was a discrepancy between the measured and computed core temperatures, indicating the need to consider successive heat stress over several days.

Evaluation of a Wearable Non-Invasive Thermometer for Monitoring Ear Canal Temperature during Physically Demanding (Outdoor) Work

Charlotte Christina Roossien et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the accuracy of a wearable non-invasive thermometer and found high correlations with ear canal infrared thermometry in both laboratory and field settings. However, environmental conditions and personal protective clothing affected the accuracy of the thermometer.

Reliability and Validity of the CORE Sensor to Assess Core Body Temperature during Cycling Exercise

Nina Verdel et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the validity and reliability of the CORE sensor for monitoring core body temperature during exercise. Results indicated that the reliability of the CORE sensor is acceptable, but the temperature readings did not agree well with the rectal sensor under different heat load levels.
