Minimizing Risk of Failure from Ceramic-on-Ceramic Total Hip Prosthesis by Selecting Ceramic Materials Based on Tresca Stress

Muhammad Imam Ammarullah et al.

Summary: The choice of ceramic-on-ceramic coupling in total hip prosthesis offers advantages such as high hardness, scratch resistance, low wear rate, and improved lubrication performance compared to other material combinations. Selecting ceramic materials for such coupling reduces the risk of postoperative failure. This study analyzed commonly used ceramic materials (zirconium dioxide, silicon nitride, and aluminium oxide) for ceramic-on-ceramic coupling and evaluated their stress distribution using a finite element-based computational model. The results showed that using ZrO2-on-ZrO2 coupling reduced Tresca stress by 17.34% compared to Si3N4-on-Si3N4 and Al2O3-on-Al2O3 couplings, which resulted in a 27.23% reduction in Tresca stress.

Diagnosis and Treatment of Hip and Knee Osteoarthritis A Review

Jeffrey N. Katz et al.

Summary: Osteoarthritis is a prevalent joint disease that can impact various joints, with risk factors including age, gender, obesity, genetics, and major joint injury. Treatment typically involves exercise, weight management, education, and medication therapy. Advanced cases may require surgical intervention for pain relief and improved function.

A Study on the Influence of Number/Distribution of Sensing Points of the Smart Insoles on the Center of Pressure Estimation for the Internet of Things Applications

Li-Wei Chou et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the design and application of smart insoles for measuring gait and plantar pressure, as well as investigates the potential applications of insoles with fewer sensing spots on the accuracy of center of pressure (COP) calculation. The research findings indicate that different layouts and combinations of pressure sensing points on the insole design can influence the accuracy of COP calculation, providing valuable insights for creating a simplified form of pressure sensing Internet-of-Health Things (IoHT) insole with reduced product cost.

An exploration of changes in plantar pressure distributions during walking with standalone and supported lateral wedge insole designs

Calvin T. F. Tse et al.

Summary: The study investigated the plantar pressure distribution in healthy individuals wearing different types of lateral wedge insoles, revealing regional differences in pressure distribution and similar comfort ratings across insole conditions. This information could help determine appropriate lateral wedge insole variations to avoid exacerbation of concomitant foot symptoms and suggests that shifts in foot center of pressure may not be a primary mechanism for modifying knee joint load distribution in people with knee osteoarthritis.
