Effects of two apple tonoplast sugar transporters, MdTST1 and MdTST2, on the accumulation of sugar

Baiyun Li et al.

Summary: The study revealed that MdTST1 and MdTST2 play important roles in regulating sugar accumulation in apple fruits, with MdTST1 more related to glucose accumulation and MdTST2 more related to fructose and sucrose accumulation. These findings lay a foundation for understanding the molecular mechanism of sugar accumulation in apple fruit vacuoles, and provide a theoretical basis for improving fruit quality through biotechnological methods.

Estimation model of soluble solids content in bagged and non-bagged apple fruits based on spectral data

Fengyun Wang et al.

Summary: The response of bagged and non-bagged apples to light differs, with the average sugar content in non-bagged apples being higher. Spectral data was used to quantitatively determine soluble solids content (SSC) and regression models established using different techniques. The ACO-PLS model showed the highest accuracy in estimating SSC for both bagged and non-bagged apples, providing a promising non-destructive method for measuring interior apple quality.

Genetic origin and climate determine fruit quality and antioxidant traits on apple (Malus x domestica Borkh)

P. Mignard et al.

Summary: The study showed that local apple varieties generally have higher average content of antioxidants and RAC compared to foreign and commercial ones, while bioactive compounds tend to decrease with higher temperatures and increase with higher solar radiation. Statistical analyses highlighted differences between groups and emphasized accessions and climate as main factors affecting metabolite profiles and fruit characteristics.
