Physiological responses and production of mini-watermelon irrigated with reject brine in hydroponic cultivation with substrates

Jose Sireleudo da Silva et al.

Summary: The study investigated the use of reject brine for hydroponic cultivation of mini-watermelon in semi-arid regions. Among different substrates, coconut fiber substrate showed the best growth and production, while washed sand posed the greatest hindrance to plant development. The use of reject brine in preparing the nutrient solution reduced the growth and production of mini-watermelon, especially in mixtures with salinity exceeding 4.00 dS/m.

Effect of wild watermelon rootstocks and water stress on chemical properties of watermelon fruit

Musa Seymen et al.

Summary: The study showed that using rootstocks under water stress conditions can increase the sugar content in fruits. The highest positive relationship was found between glucose and total sugar, while the highest negative relationship was observed between sucrose and malic acid. Parameters such as glucose, total sugar, and citric acid showed significant changes under drought stress.

Hydroponic production of 'Biquinho' pepper with brackish water

Maria Augusta Amorim Bione et al.

Summary: This study investigated the potential of 'Biquinho' pepper as an alternative crop in regions with limited freshwater supply but availability of brackish water. Results showed that this crop has high salt tolerance and yield potential under certain conditions, making it a promising option for cultivation in semi-arid areas.

Production, water-use efficiency and post-harvest quality of hydroponic mini watermelon under salinity stress

Lais Monique Gomes do O et al.

Summary: The study conducted in semi-arid regions aimed to assess water-use efficiency and post-harvest quality of 'Sugar Baby' mini watermelon in response to different electrical conductivities of the nutrient solution. Results showed that nutrient solution salinity significantly influenced rind thickness and fruit mass.
