Biological removal of gas-phase H2S in hollow fibre membrane bioreactors

Jewel Das et al.

Summary: The study tested the feasibility of HFMB for the biological removal of gas-phase H2S, demonstrating high removal efficiency at different ILRs. The biotic HFMBs showed significantly higher H2S flux and mass transfer compared to abiotic controls, with attached microbial growth on the membrane surface. The results confirmed that the HFMB configuration is suitable for the biological treatment of H2S-laden waste gas.

Nitrogen removal from poultry slaughterhouse wastewater in anaerobic-anoxic-aerobic combined reactor: Integrated effect of recirculation rate and hydraulic retention time

Carla Limberger Lopes et al.

Summary: The study evaluated nitrogen removal from slaughterhouse wastewater in an anaerobic-anoxic-aerobic combined reactor, with the integrated effect of recirculation rate and hydraulic retention time. The highest performance was achieved with a recirculation rate of 2 and hydraulic retention time of 11 hours, resulting in NH4+ and TN removals of 84% and 65% respectively.

Technologies for biogas desulfurization- An overview of recent studies

C. M. Becker et al.

Summary: This paper conducts a systematic review of recent studies on desulfurization technologies, extracting information from 51 articles to identify trends, potentials, and limitations of each technique. The study reveals that experiments with lower hydrogen sulfide concentrations result in higher efficiencies, with over 80% of the articles reporting H2S removal efficiencies exceeding 80%. Promising desulfurization methods highlighted include a trickling filter system, biodesulfurization and bioscrubbing processes, a photocatalytic desulfurizer, and micro-aeration tests.

Achieving synergetic treatment of sludge supernatant, waste activated sludge and secondary effluent for wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) sustainable development

Fangzhai Zhang et al.

Summary: A novel process combining partial nitrification, fermentation, and Anammox-partial denitrification was proposed for co-treating ammonia-rich sludge supernatant, external WAS, and WWTP secondary effluent, achieving excellent nitrogen removal efficiency and external sludge reduction. This process showed significant collaboration between Anammox bacteria and partial denitrifying bacteria in the AD-UASB reactor, contributing to up to 84.1% of nitrogen removal, while saving organic resource demand and aeration consumption compared to traditional nitrification-denitrification processes.

Economic assessment of biogas purification systems for removal of both H2S and siloxane from biogas

Yuyao Zhang et al.

Summary: This study evaluated two biogas purification systems for efficient removal of H2S and D5, finding that the combination of BTF and AC was more profitable than IOBA and AC, despite higher initial capital investment. The BTF-AC combination achieved high elimination rates for both H2S and D5, providing cost savings and the benefit of heat production, making it a more profitable option for biogas production.
