Two-proton emission from excited states of proton-rich nuclei

Xing Feng-Zhu et al.

Summary: The effective liquid drop model (ELDM) and the generalized liquid drop model (GLDM) are extended to study the two-proton (2p) radioactivity of proton-rich nuclei. The experimental 2p decay half-lives are well reproduced by the ELDM and GLDM. The models are also used to predict the 2p decay half-lives of unobserved excited states, and the influence of decay energy and angular momentum on the half-lives is analyzed. The construction of new radioactive ion beam facilities is expected to provide further insight into the 2p radioactivity and test hypotheses. Microscopic models, such as the shell model, need to be further developed to better describe the mechanism of 2p emission.

Deformation dependence of the screened decay law for proton emission

R. Budaca et al.

Summary: The decay law for proton emission was generalized by considering a screening effect in the electrostatic interaction, showing a dependence between the screening parameter and deformation in calculations on Z >= 53 proton emitters. A suitable functional dependence of the screening parameter on deformation significantly improved the agreement with experimental data. The prediction power of the generalized formula was tested on observed proton emissions with unknown branching ratios and by extrapolation to available two-proton emission data.

Alpha and cluster decays of superheavy elements and 2p radioactivity of medium nuclei

G. Royer et al.

Summary: The alpha decay, cluster radioactivity, and heavy particle emission half-lives of known and some unknown superheavy nuclei were studied using the Generalized Liquid Drop Model and analytic formulas. The agreement between experimental data and theoretical predictions for alpha decay half-lives of superheavy nuclei is good, and predictions are provided for unknown nuclei.

Observation of a correlated free four-neutron system

M. Duer et al.

Summary: This article discusses the long-standing question in nuclear physics of whether chargeless nuclear systems can exist. The researchers report on the observation of a resonance-like structure in the four-neutron system, indicating the existence of a quasi-bound tetraneutron state for a very short time. The measured energy and width of this state serve as an important benchmark for understanding the nuclear force.

Two-proton emission systematics

D. S. Delion et al.

Summary: The simultaneous emission of two protons is an exotic and complex three-body process. It is very important for experimental groups investigating the nuclear stability on the proton drip line to have a simple rule predicting the two-proton decay widths with a reasonable accuracy for transitions between ground as well as excited states in terms of relevant physical variables. In spite of its complexity, we show that the two-proton emission process obeys similar rules as for binary emission processes like proton, alpha, and heavy cluster decays.

Improved density-dependent cluster model in α-decay calculations within anisotropic deformation-dependent surface diffuseness

Zhen Wang et al.

Summary: The improved version of the density-dependent cluster model (DDCM+), which accounts for the anisotropy and polarization effects of surface diffuseness due to nuclear deformation, is developed to optimize alpha-decay calculations. The systematic calculations on alpha-decay half-lives for 157 even-even nuclei show good agreement with experimental data and demonstrate the high reliability of the improved model.

Hong-Ming Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, a new two-parameter empirical formula based on the Geiger-Nuttall law is proposed to study two-proton radioactivity. The calculated results are in good agreement with experimental data and results obtained using other theoretical models, demonstrating the effectiveness of the formula in predicting half-lives of 2p radioactivity candidates.

Systematic study of two-proton radioactivity within a Gamow-like model

Hong-Ming Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, the two-proton (2p) radioactivity half-lives of nuclei near or beyond the proton drip line were systematically analyzed using the Gamow-like model. The calculated results were found to reproduce experimental data well, and predicted results were in good agreement with those from other theoretical models and empirical formulas such as the ELDM, GLDM, Sreeja formula, and Liu formula. The model also provided predictions for 2p radioactivity candidates not yet quantified in the latest table of evaluated nuclear properties, NUBASE2016.

Two-proton radioactivity of ground and excited states within a unified fission model

Fengzhu Xing et al.

Summary: A unified fission model is applied to study two-proton radioactivity of nuclei, showing good agreement between experimental and calculated half-lives. The model accurately predicts half-lives of ground states and performs better than analytical formulas for excited states. The parameters in the formulas do not align with the mechanism of quantum tunneling and were obtained without experimental data from excited states.
