Effect of liposome surface modification with water-soluble phospholipid polymer chain-conjugated lipids on interaction with human plasma proteins

Anna Adler et al.

Summary: Alternative liposome surface coatings with poly(2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine) (MPC)-based lipids (PMPC-lipids) can effectively suppress protein adsorption and C3 binding, especially with higher molecular weight and molar ratio of PMPC-lipids. Apolipoprotein A-I is detected on PMPC-liposomes with higher molecular weight, while alpha(2)-macroglobulin is detected on non-modified, PEGylated, and PMPC-liposomes with shorter polymer chains. There is a correlation among the PMPC molecular weight, molar ratio, and C3 binding.

Neutral polyphosphocholine-modified liposomes as boundary superlubricants

Weifeng Lin et al.

Summary: This study investigates the difference in surface lubricity between neutral lipid-PMPC conjugates and negatively charged lipid/polyphosphocholine conjugate modified liposomes. The results show that neutral polyphosphocholinated liposomes exhibit superlubricity, while negatively charged lipid/polyphosphocholine conjugate modified liposomes are unable to adsorb on negatively charged surfaces.

mRNA Vaccines to Prevent COVID-19 Disease and Reported Allergic Reactions: Current Evidence and Suggested Approach

Aleena Banerji et al.

Summary: The FDA has authorized emergency use of Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines, but individuals with severe allergic reactions are advised against receiving them. The CDC recommends observing those with a history of immediate allergies or anaphylaxis for 30 minutes post-vaccination, while all others should be observed for 15 minutes.

COVID-19 vaccine-associated anaphylaxis: A statement of the World Allergy Organization Anaphylaxis Committee

Paul J. Turner et al.

Summary: Vaccines against COVID-19 are crucial for controlling the pandemic, with most adverse events being a result of immune response rather than allergic reactions. Although anaphylaxis is rare with vaccines, recent data on reactions to the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine suggest a closer incidence rate of 1 in 200,000 doses. A global surveillance strategy led by allergists is proposed to gather data and provide evidence-based guidance to public health bodies and the public for reassurance.
