Effect of shear-induced contact area and aperture variations on nonlinear flow behaviors in fractal rock fractures

Summary: This study experimentally investigates the nonlinear flow characteristics and channelization of fluid through rough-walled fractures during shear process. The results show that the critical Reynolds number increases with increasing shear displacement but decreases with increasing fracture surface roughness. As the shear displacement increases, preferential flow paths become more distinct and the area of single contacts increases.

Study on dynamic shear deformation behaviors and test methodology of sawtooth-shaped rock joints under impact load

Summary: This study explores the dynamic shear deformation behaviors of rock joints under dynamic disturbance through an impact-induced direct shear test. The effects and mechanisms of undulating angle and initial normal stress on the dynamic shear deformation are investigated. The results show that the shear rate varies due to the variable input force and normal stress, and the shear process can be divided into three sub-stages. The maximum shear displacement is negatively correlated with the normal stress and the undulating angle.

Experimental study on the seismic behavior of seawater sea sand concrete beams reinforced with steel-FRP composite bars

Summary: This study investigated the seismic behavior of beams reinforced with different materials, revealing that chloride ions in seawater and sea sand concrete can cause steel corrosion and impact the seismic response of RC beams. Structures reinforced with SFCB bars and a combination of SFCB and BFRP bars showed significant improvement in seismic behavior under low cyclic loads, with increased load-carrying capacity and energy consumption compared to steel RC beams. These structures are recommended for reinforcement of seawater and sea sand concrete structures.

Experimental and analytical investigation of the shear resistance of a rock joint held by a fully-grouted bolt and subject to large deformations

Summary: Failures of rock bolts due to shear movement along weak joints are common, but existing models usually underestimate the bolt's contribution to shear resistance. Therefore, a new analytical model reflecting the plastic strain-hardening of rockbolts subjected to large deformation was developed in this study, which showed good agreement with test results and improved upon existing methods.
