A Fluorescent Chemosensor Based on Functionalized Nanoporous Silica (SBA-15 SBA-IC-MN) for Detection of Hg2+ in Aqueous Media

Ghodsi Mohammadi Ziarani et al.

Summary: The highly ordered mesoporous silica SBA-15 was modified with indole-3-carbaldehyde and covalently grafted with malononitrile to prepare an organic-inorganic hybrid nanomaterial, SBA-IC-MN. The product successfully attached organic moieties to the surface of SBA-15 while preserving its original structure. The optical sensing ability of SBA-IC-MN was demonstrated to be highly selective and sensitive towards Hg2+ ions in H2O medium, with a detection limit of 3.26 x 10(-6) and excellent linearity with the concentration of Hg2+ ion.

Rationally engineered nanosensors: A novel strategy for the detection of heavy metal ions in the environment

Arshid Numan et al.

Summary: Heavy metal ions (HMIs) are mainly originated from natural and anthropogenic sources, becoming a major societal issue due to their accumulative and toxic effects. Key measures are needed to reduce the risks posed by toxic metal pollutants in the environment. Detection using nanomaterials presents a promising and innovative strategy to potentially control heavy metal poisoning.
