BaNTERA: A Bayesian Network for Third-Party Excavation Risk Assessment

Andres Ruiz-Tagle et al.

Summary: This paper presents the development and results of BaNTERA, a probabilistic Bayesian network model for third-party excavation risk assessment in the U.S. The capabilities of BaNTERA for risk-informed decision support are demonstrated through model performance verification, damage rate prediction validation, and application in multiple case study scenarios.

A Hybrid Physics-Based and Data-Driven Model for Power Distribution System Infrastructure Hardening and Outage Simulation

William Hughes et al.

Summary: In this study, a hybrid physics-based and data-driven model was proposed for predicting power outages. The model combines the physical attributes of the infrastructure system with machine learning techniques to predict outages, especially for extreme events where data may be limited. The results showed that the hybrid model outperformed purely data-driven approaches in predicting high-impact event outages. Additionally, the model was used to assess the impacts of grid hardening activities on reducing pole failures.

A framework for quantitative analysis of the causation of grounding accidents in arctic shipping

Shanshan Fu et al.

Summary: The paper presents a framework for quantitative analysis of the causation of grounding accidents in Arctic shipping using an AcciMap - Bayesian network model. The framework was applied to analyze a cruise ship grounding accident, demonstrating improved understanding of risk factors, identification of critical risk factors, and determination of risk control options.
