Spin-Torque Switching in Rare-Earth-Free Compensated Ferrimagnet Mn4N Films

Hao Bai et al.

Summary: This study reports the growth of rare-earth-free compensated ferrimagnet Mn4N single crystalline films with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy on MgO(001) substrates through reactive magnetron sputtering. The current-induced spin-orbit torque switching is experimentally demonstrated in Mn4N/Pt bilayer Hall bar device, with an increased effective SOT efficiency observed with the thickness of Mn4N films. These results suggest that perpendicularly magnetized C-FIM Mn4N films have potential for developing rare-earth-free FIM spintronics devices.

Experimental demonstration of skyrmionic magnetic tunnel junction at room temperature

Sai Li et al.

Summary: This study reports the direct observation of nanoscale skyrmions in CoFeB/MgO-based magnetic tunnel junction devices at room temperature and achieves their electrical detection. The formation of skyrmions is stabilized by the cooperation of interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction, perpendicular magnetic anisotropy, and dipolar stray field. The skyrmionic magnetic tunnel junction exhibits stable nonlinear multilevel resistance, providing important perspectives for high-density memory and neuromorphic computing in spintronics.

Real-time Hall-effect detection of current-induced magnetization dynamics in ferrimagnets

G. Sala et al.

Summary: A new approach for time-resolved measurements of magnetization reversal is presented, showing activation delays in the current-induced switching of GdFeCo, despite high domain-wall velocity. The method is applicable to various current-induced phenomena and can be combined with non-electrical excitations for pump-probe Hall effect measurements.

Magnetic vortex near the extended linear magnetic inhomogeneity

V. A. Orlov et al.

Summary: This paper theoretically solves the problem of magnetic vortex motion in a field of extended linear inhomogeneity, calculating the motion parameters with the vortex effective mass and the third-order gyrovector using the method of collective variables. Analytical expressions for the effective potentials near the vortex core's location and the influence of core mass and third-order gyrovector on the vortex motion as a quasiparticle are discussed. The introduction of mass and gyroscopic effect of the third order shows that the motion of the vortex core is not translational, with trajectories overlaying cycloids of different rotation frequencies.

Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya interaction (DMI)-induced magnetic skyrmion materials

Wen-Sen Wei et al.

Summary: A magnetic skyrmion, a particle-like spin swirling object, has a nontrivial topology and is seen as a promising next-generation information carrier in high-performance spintronic devices. This study delves into the magnetic properties of skyrmion-hosting materials stemming from DMI, highlighting the relationship between materials' point groups and DMI, as well as the common features of magnetic skyrmions experimentally verified in magnetization and magnetotransport measurements. Discussions also include other particle-like magnetic configurations in chiral magnets and their crossover with superconductors.
