Neotectonic Subsidence Along the Cenozoic Kunlun Fault (Tibetan Plateau)

Dada Yan et al.

Summary: Many lake basins on the Tibetan Plateau are affected by tectonic activity, with Lake Donggi Cona serving as an example of how seismic tectonics influence lake formation and evolution. The rapid subsidence rate indicates frequent seismic events and ongoing neotectonic activity.

Precipitation dynamics on the Tibetan Plateau during the Late Quaternary - Hydroclimatic sedimentary proxies versus lake level variability

Thomas Kasper et al.

Summary: By studying the hydrological balance of the endorheic lakes Nam Co and Tangra Yumco on the Tibetan Plateau, insights into the relationship between lake level fluctuations and environmental dynamics in the Late Quaternary period can be obtained. High-resolution multi-proxy records reveal a close connection between precipitation and lake level variations, with climate changes impacting this relationship.

Late Quaternary seasonal process variations in lake basins on the NE Tibetan Plateau

Dada Yan et al.

Summary: The late Quaternary climate history along the north-eastern Tibetan Plateau is still debated with regards to signals in lake deposits and catchment processes. Lake development and eolian accumulation in catchments on the NETP show a clear division between summer and late autumn/winter/early spring dominated activities. Processes on the NETP during the late glacial and early Holocene were influenced by lake hydrological and eolian variations, with eolian sand activity dominating in the catchments during cold periods. Subsequent fluctuations in lake levels and intensive eolian deposits over the last 2 ka demonstrate climate variations similar to present, with influences from the Asian summer monsoon and Mid Latitude Westerlies/Asian winter monsoon.

Late Quaternary persistent impacts of permafrost on lake hydrology and landscape evolution on the NE Tibetan Plateau

Yongzhan Zhang et al.

Summary: Research on the permafrost on the Tibetan Plateau has shown its long-lasting impacts on the hydrological cycle and landscape evolution in lake basins. Using Lake Heihai as a case study, the study revealed the processes of landscape change and collapse under permafrost and thermokarst processes since the Late Quaternary.

Glaciohydrology of the Himalaya-Karakoram

Mohd. Farooq Azam et al.

Summary: Understanding the response of Himalayan-Karakoram rivers to climate change is crucial, with glacier and snow melt being more important for the Indus basin. River runoff, glacier melt, and flow seasonality are projected to increase in the coming decades, but there are significant uncertainties and critical knowledge gaps impacting modeled contributions of runoff components and future volumes.
