A holistic health determinants model for public health nursing education and practice

Summary: Baccalaureate nursing graduates in the 21st century need to be prepared to manage diverse population health needs and improve health equity. This study developed a Holistic Health Determinants Model that incorporates the Social Determinants of Health from Healthy People 2020 and Healthy People 2030. The model serves as a tool for teaching nursing students to address the needs of individuals/families, diverse populations, and communities, as well as integrating population health competencies.
