Assembly Patterns of the Rhizosphere Microbiome Along the Longitudinal Root Axis of Maize (Zea mays L.)

Lioba Rueger et al.

Summary: The assembly of rhizosphere microbiota along maize roots is found to be more complex than expected, with high randomness in beta diversity at root tips and root hair zones. Further up the root, determinstic processes such as competition and predation appear to be more prominent, leading to low variability in beta diversity and regular phylogenetic co-occurrence patterns in bipartite networks between prokaryotes and their protistan predators.

Spatiotemporal Dynamics of Maize (Zea mays L.) Root Growth and Its Potential Consequences for the Assembly of the Rhizosphere Microbiota

Michael Bonkowski et al.

Summary: The formation of microbial communities on plant roots is a complex and predictable process that plays a crucial role in plant-microbe relationships. By studying dynamic root traits in maize, insights can be gained into how root growth influences the assembly of microbiomes.
