A durable and photothermal superhydrophobic coating with entwinned CNTs-SiO2 hybrids for anti-icing applications

Fan Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, carbon nanotubes were grafted by silica nanoparticles to prepare CNTs-SiO2 hybrids, which were then incorporated into an epoxy matrix to construct a superhydrophobic coating. The optimal ratio of CNTs to SiO2 was found to be 1:3, achieving the best hydrophobicity with a water contact angle of 159.3 degrees. The entwined CNTs-SiO2 hybrids not only enhanced water repellency and mechanical durability, but also showed excellent chemical stability under harsh conditions, significantly delaying water freezing time and efficiently melting ice under laser irradiation.
