Modulation of superhydrophobicity and self-binding strength of cellulose ester-based coating by changing the degree of substitution

Wei Li et al.

Summary: The performance of cellulose ester-based coatings, particularly in terms of superhydrophobicity and self-binding strength, can be optimized by adjusting the degree of substitution (DS) value. Increasing DS leads to a normal distribution of particle size for CUE, resulting in a larger contact area. The optimum DS value for CUE coating is 0.44-0.94, providing a new perspective for the design of stable bio-based superhydrophobic coatings.

Jihao Zuo et al.

Summary: The study focused on developing superwetting positively and negatively charged copper foams with long permeation channels for ultrafast separation of oil-in-water emulsions and removal of surfactants. The positively charged foam achieved a separation efficiency of up to 99.64% and a permeation flux of up to 22,636.56 L m(-2) h(-1), while the negatively charged foam achieved a separation efficiency of up to 99.65% and a permeation flux of up to 32,166.32 L m(-2) h(-1). The charged copper foams showed efficient removal ability towards anionic and cationic surfactants, making them a promising candidate for oil/water emulsion separation and surfactant removal.
