Thermal behavior and decomposition mechanism of azobenzene by using kinetic calculation method and molecular dynamics simulation method

Huiming Sun et al.

Summary: In this work, elevated thermal and isothermal experiments of azobenzene were conducted using SENSYS Evolution DSC. Kinetic parameters and decomposition mechanism were determined using Kinetic Calculation (KC) method and Molecular Dynamics Simulation (MDS) method. The results demonstrate that azobenzene exhibits a distinct first endothermic and subsequent exothermic behavior during thermal decomposition. The apparent activation energy remains relatively constant in the range of 0.1 <_ alpha <_ 0.4 and gradually decreases as the reaction proceeds. The thermal decomposition behavior of azobenzene can be described by the Sestak-Berggren mechanism. At the initial stage, the decomposition process is controlled by the lack of sufficient free radicals, while at the autocatalytic stage, it is governed by the exponential growth of free radicals. Based on the Semenov model, the self-accelerating decomposition temperature (SADT) of azobenzene is calculated to be 380.5 degrees Celsius when packed in a 25 kg standard package.

Utilization of a novel bisphosphonic acid surfactant for reverse froth flotation of magnesite and dolomite

Wenhan Sun et al.

Summary: In this study, a surfactant DBDP was found to selectively adsorb on the surface of dolomite and effectively collect it from magnesite. The collector achieved a significant recovery difference in single mineral flotation tests and showed excellent separation performance in mixed minerals reverse flotation tests. The adsorption mechanism analysis and DFT calculation provided insights into the surface interactions, confirming the strong adsorption of DBDP on dolomite surface compared to magnesite. The results suggest that DBDP holds promise for the efficient removal of dolomite from magnesite using reverse flotation.

Preparation of magnesium potassium phosphate cement using by-product MgO from Qarhan Salt Lake for low-carbon and sustainable cement production

Yongshan Tan et al.

Summary: In this study, boron-containing MgO by-products obtained from lithium extraction in Qarhan Salt Lake, China, were used as substitutes for dead-burned MgO to prepare magnesium phosphate potassium cement (MKPC) as a rapid repair material. The effects of different MgO sources, molar ratio of MgO to KH2PO4, and curing age on the setting time and mechanical properties of MKPC were investigated. The results showed that the by-product MgO prolonged the setting time of MKPC, but with increasing age, the mechanical properties of MKPC prepared by by-product MgO were excellent. The study also characterized the phase and microstructure evolution of MKPC prepared with different MgO contents.

Insight into master plots method for kinetic analysis of lignocellulosic biomass pyrolysis

Laipeng Luo et al.

Summary: In analyzing kinetic reactions of solid-state reactions like lignocellulosic biomass pyrolysis, the accuracy of determining the kinetic mechanism function using the master plots method depends strongly on the variation degree of the frequency factor with conversion and the conversion dependency of activation energy. Failure to consider these factors when utilizing the master plots method may lead to misestimating the kinetic mechanism function.
