Enhancement of catalytic combustion and thermolysis for treating polyethylene plastic waste

Dengji Xu et al.

Summary: Polyethylene (PE) is a major component of waste plastics with slow natural degradation. Incineration and thermolysis are effective methods for plastic waste treatment. The addition of catalysts like MCM-41 can control burning efficiency and reduce fire risks. HZSM-5 is the most effective catalyst for the conversion of PE to aromatic hydrocarbons.

Effects of volatile organic compounds on the explosion characteristics of polyethylene dust

Yu -Chi Cheng et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of different concentrations of ethylene and propene gas on the explosion characteristics of polyethylene dust. It found that the addition of these gases increased the maximum explosion pressure and decreased the lower explosion limit. Tests conducted in a propene environment also showed stronger explosions.

Dust cloud explosion characteristics and mechanisms in MgH2-based hydrogen storage materials

Yun-Ting Tsai et al.

Summary: The study found that adding trace amounts of H-2 in Mg explosions can significantly increase explosion severity, while also weakening the impact of oxygen deficiency. Moreover, the explosion intensity of synthetic MgH2 was much stronger than premixed Mg/H-2 mixture or Mg alone due to the formation of vacancy defects in Mg and H atoms after dehydrogenation.

Evaluation of the dust potential hazard of thermal power plants through coal dust combustion and explosion characteristics

Yu-Chi Cheng et al.

Summary: Thermal power is the main source of electricity in Taiwan, with coal as the primary fuel, but concerns over fire and explosion hazards caused by coal dust are increasing. This study found that Russian coal had the lowest ignition energy and minimum ignition temperature values, while the minimum dust explosion concentration was 30 g m(-3) in Australian coal.

Inertant effects and mechanism of Al(OH)3 powder on polyethylene dust explosions based on flame propagation behavior and thermal analysis

Song Lin et al.

Summary: The addition of Al(OH)(3) powder has a significant effect on the structure and propagation characteristics of a polyethylene dust explosion flame, by decreasing flame brightness and propagation velocity, and diminishing flame pulsation. Al(OH)(3) powder retards the acceleration of flame propagation and decreases the thermal weight loss of polyethylene, showing significance in the prevention and treatment of polyethylene dust explosion accidents.
