Observer-based gain scheduling path following control for autonomous electric vehicles subject to time delay

Shaoqiang Chu et al.

Summary: This paper presents a novel observer-based gain-scheduling path following control algorithm for autonomous electric vehicles subject to time delay. The algorithm accurately describes the time-varying longitudinal velocity and nonlinear tyre dynamics, and proposes an observer-based path following controller taking the time delay into consideration. The controller gains are gain scheduled according to the actual longitudinal velocity. A set of linear matrix inequalities is used to develop the sufficient conditions of controller design. The proposed method is found to be more efficient and superior compared to the existing method through numerical simulations.
