Consumer engagement in health care policy, research and services: A systematic review and meta-analysis of methods and effects

Louise K. Wiles et al.

Summary: Consumer engagement in health care policy, research, and services has been found to have positive effects on health outcomes, such as reducing neonatal mortality and improving patient knowledge. However, the impact of consumer engagement on health professional training needs further investigation. These findings highlight the importance of continuing to employ evidence-informed consumer engagement strategies.

Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Self-Sampling among Never-and Under-Screened Indigenous Maori, Pacific and Asian Women in Aotearoa New Zealand: A Feasibility Study

Collette Bromhead et al.

Summary: In New Zealand, the majority of cervical cancer cases occur in women who have never been screened or are under-screened, with Maori, Pacific and Asian women having the lowest rate of cervical screening. Self-sampling for human papillomavirus has been shown to increase participation in cervical cancer screening. The study found that self-sampling is acceptable and effective in detecting HPV and preventing cervical cancer in under-screened urban Maori, Pacific and Asian women in Aotearoa, with the need for a whole-of-system approach to reduce the widening gap in screening access and outcomes among different groups of women.

Population-based utility scores for HPV infection and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma among Indigenous Australians

Xiangqun Ju et al.

Summary: This study conducted in Indigenous communities in South Australia found that utility for oral HPV infection and OPSCC decreased with severity of health states. Older participants, as well as males and those residing in non-metropolitan locations, had decreased utility for high-grade cytology and early invasive cancer states. The findings contribute to cost-utility and disease prevention strategies for reducing HPV infection and OPSCC among all Australians.

Development of a Group-Based Community Health Worker Intervention to Increase Colorectal Cancer Screening Among Latinos

C. L. de la Torre et al.

Summary: This article describes the development of a group-based CRC intervention for Latino populations, guided by the socioecologic framework and community engagement. Findings suggest that interventions led by CHWs with linkages to care are feasible and effective in reaching populations at highest risk for CRC. Early and sustained community engagement is essential in developing community-based CRC screening interventions.
