Control of cluster coalescence during formation of bimetallic nanoparticles and nanoalloys obtained via electric explosion of two wires

K. Suliz et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the possibility of controlling cluster coalescence during the formation of bimetallic nanoparticles and nanoalloys through electric explosion, and provides a detailed description of the evolution and structural features of the clusters using experimental and computational simulations. The results show that by controlling the temperature and size of the clusters, nanoparticles and bimetallic nanoparticles with specific structures can be synthesized.

Observation of Laser Radiation Scattering Effects in Explosion Products of Thin Molybdenum Wires

V. M. Romanova et al.

Summary: This study presents the results of laser probing of products of electrical explosion of thin molybdenum wires in air. It is found that increasing the probing wavelength results in a substantial increase in the transparency of the core, which is composed of small particles and scattering from these particles follows a lambda(-4) dependence on wavelength.

Molecular dynamics simulation of the formation of bimetallic core-shell nanostructures with binary Ni-Al nanoparticle quenching

Sergei Bogdanov et al.

Summary: Using isothermal molecular dynamics, the self-assembly of core-shell nanostructures during the quenching of binary Ni-Al nanoparticles was simulated. The spontaneous surface segregation of Al atoms was found to be the main driving force for the formation of core-shell structures.

Porous Co-Pt Nanoalloys for Production of Carbon Nanofibers and Composites

Sofya D. Afonnikova et al.

Summary: In this study, Co-Pt alloy catalysts were prepared by reductive thermolysis, and carbon nanofibers (CNF) were successfully synthesized. It was found that the addition of an appropriate amount of platinum to the alloy can enhance the activity of the catalyst, with a maximum yield of 40 g/g(cat). The structure of CNF and the local composition of active particles were also investigated.

Laser scattering by submicron droplets formed during the electrical explosion of thin metal wires

V. M. Romanova et al.

Summary: This paper presents the results of studying dispersed media formation during the electrical explosion of thin metal wires in vacuum by using low-current generators. The composition and structure of the explosion products were analyzed, and simultaneous laser interferometry and shadow imaging were used for visualization. Multiple scattering by submicron droplets of dense condensed matter, mixed with metal vapor, plays an important role in visualizing the explosion products.

Solid-solution strengthening effects in binary Ni-based alloys evaluated by high-throughput calculations

Ming-Xu Wang et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the strengthening effects of alloying elements in Ni are influenced by their positions on the periodic table, with elements at the ends of each period showing higher strengthening abilities than those in the middle. For elements in the 5th and 6th period, lattice misfit was found to dominate the strengthening effect. Experimental solubilities were used to evaluate the strengthening potentials of these elements.

Promotional roles of second metals in catalyzing methane decomposition over the Ni-based catalysts for hydrogen production: A critical review

Shahla Karimi et al.

Summary: This review focuses on the use of different promoters in controlling the deactivation of nickel-based catalysts in the thermocatalytic decomposition of methane (TCD) process and their impact on the formed carbon nanomaterials. By discussing the classification of different promoters and their mechanisms of action in detail, it provides a reference for the design of catalysts for efficient pure hydrogen production and carbon nanomaterials.

Rational Design and General Synthesis of Multimetallic Metal-Organic Framework Nano-Octahedra for Enhanced Li-S Battery

Wenting Li et al.

Summary: In this study, a series of Mn-based multimetallic MOF nano-octahedra were successfully prepared by a facile one-pot synthetic strategy. These nano-octahedra were used as sulfur hosts to prepare cathodes for Li-S batteries, with MnNi-MIL-100@S cathode exhibiting the best performance. The strategy described here allows for the incorporation of metal ions into MOF architecture, leading to the rational generation of novel multimetallic MOFs, and enables the general synthesis and study of various micro-/nanoscale MOFs in the field of energy storage.

Facile synthesis of triple Ni-Mo-W alloys and their catalytic properties in chemical vapor deposition of chlorinated hydrocarbons

Yury Shubin et al.

Summary: In this study, sponge-like porous Ni-Mo-W alloys were prepared as catalysts for the catalytic chemical vapor deposition of 1,2-dichloroethane. The synthesis of the alloys was performed via high-temperature reductive thermolysis of multicomponent precursors, showing synergistic effects of Mo and W on process efficiency during the decomposition of 1,2-dichloroethane. The catalytic activity of the alloys was studied in a flow-through reactor at 600 degrees C for 2 hours.
