Microperforated Compostable Packaging Extends Shelf Life of Ethylene-Treated Banana Fruit

Victor Rodov et al.

Summary: This study compared compostable biodegradable polyester packaging with commercially available petroleum-based plastic alternatives for ethylene-treated bananas. The results showed that non-perforated compostable packaging caused hypoxic fermentation, while micro-perforation prevented fermentation. The biodegradable packages had higher water vapor permeability compared to conventional plastics but lower fruit weight loss than in open containers.

Contribution of phenylpropanoid metabolism to plant development and plant-environment interactions

Nai-Qian Dong et al.

Summary: Phenylpropanoid metabolism is crucial for plant development and interaction with the environment. Plants have evolved multiple branches of this pathway, generating a variety of metabolites. Various factors regulate phenylpropanoid metabolism to maintain homeostasis during plant development and in response to environmental stresses.

Effect of benzothiadiazole treatment on quality and anthocyanin biosynthesis in plum fruit during storage at ambient temperature

Chen Huan et al.

Summary: The study showed that the BTH treatment accelerated fruit ripening, improved fruit quality, and increased anthocyanin biosynthesis in 'Taoxingli' plums. This treatment could be a potential postharvest technology for enhancing fruit quality and consumer acceptability in harvested plum fruit.

Identification of MaWRKY40 and MaDLO1 as Effective Marker Genes for Tracking the Salicylic Acid-Mediated Immune Response in Bananas

Yuh Tzean et al.

Summary: Bananas are crucial crops threatened by pathogens, and the study identified MaWRKY40 and MaDLO1 as reliable SA-responsive marker genes induced consistently in different banana cultivars and organs. These genes could serve as a valuable tool for further research on banana resistance to pathogens.

Identification and characterization of Colletotrichum species associated with anthracnose disease of banana

Rong Huang et al.

Summary: Banana anthracnose is a major disease that affects both quality and production. This study identified five Colletotrichum species associated with banana anthracnose, and found differences in the speed of lesion development caused by these fungi through pathogenicity testing. The study also reported the first instances of certain species of Colletotrichum associated with banana anthracnose in China and worldwide.
