Efficient Recognition and Automatic Sorting Technology of Waste Textiles Based on Online Near infrared Spectroscopy and Convolutional Neural Network

Wenqian Du et al.

Summary: This study established an online near infrared (NIR) spectral library and utilized artificial intelligence technology for the identification and sorting of waste textiles. Two online NIR qualitative identification models were constructed using convolutional neural network (CNN), achieving high accuracy in fabric classification. The online identification and sorting accuracy was above 95%, and the recognition and sorting time for each sample was less than 2 seconds, enabling efficient identification and automatic sorting of waste textiles.

Green TPUs from Prepolymer Mixtures Designed by Controlling the Chemical Structure of Flexible Segments

Paulina Kasprzyk et al.

Summary: This study focuses on green thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU) obtained by controlling the chemical structure of flexible segments using bio-based polyether polyols. By adjusting the number of flexible segments of a given type, various selected properties of TPU materials can be achieved. Increasing the amount of PO3G1000 in the flexible segments enhances the tensile strength but reduces the elongation at break of TPUs.

Textiles for Circular Fashion: The Logic behind Recycling Options

Paulien Harmsen et al.

Summary: For the textile industry to become sustainable, understanding the origin and production of resources is crucial, with recycled feedstock expected to play a significant role in the future. Textile recycling is still in its early stages and faces challenges, including issues with current fibre classification, lack of standard definition for recycling technologies, and poor communication about the benefits of recycling from a consumer perspective. New methods for fibre and recycling classification have been proposed to address these challenges and improve communication for better recycling practices.
