Detection of the Destruction Mechanism of Perfluorinated Elastomer (FFKM) Network under Thermo-oxidative Aging Conditions

Wen-Yue Zhuo et al.

Summary: The changes in the crosslinking network of perfluorinated elastomer (FFKM) cured by TAIC and DBPH under thermo-oxidative aging conditions were studied. The network destruction becomes dominant with increasing aging temperature, mainly occurring on the crosslink points of TAIC structure. The post-curing is mainly caused by the decomposition of residual curing agent DBPH. TGA-FTIR-GC-MS test reveals that the destruction of TAIC crosslinking points occurs first on the unstable exocyclic C-N bonds. A schematic degradation process of TAIC structure was proposed.

High-performance fluoroelastomer-graphene nanocomposites for advanced sealing applications

Mufeng Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) were incorporated into a fluoroelastomer (FKM) matrix to enhance its mechanical and barrier properties for sealing applications. The GNPs were able to significantly improve the tensile and barrier properties of the FKM, showing promising potential for advanced sealing applications. The nanocomposites filled with GNPs exhibited superior performance at relatively low filler loadings.

New evaluation method for the curing degree of rubber and its nanocomposites using ATR-FTIR spectroscopy

Shun Muroga et al.

Summary: A nondestructive method using ATR-FTIR spectroscopy was proposed to evaluate the curing degree of cured rubbers and their nanocomposites, specifically in fluorine-based rubber. The study found that the FWHM of the C=O band can be used as a standard to measure the crosslinking density, showing good applicability in the presence of various nanofillers. Additionally, the study revealed that FWHM was more sensitive to changes in crosslinking density when fillers like CNTs were added to the rubber compared to changes in Young's modulus.

Volume Resistivity of Viton Polymer under Thermal Aging

Alireza Abdihamzehkolaei et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of various electrical parameters on the volume resistivity of Viton fluoroelastomer and compares new and aged samples. The results show that both new and aged samples exhibit decreased resistivity with increasing temperature, with aged samples consistently showing lower resistivity. Additionally, the study found that volume resistivity is inversely proportional to the applied voltage and aging leads to higher surface roughness and cracks on Viton samples, impacting performance under high voltage applications.

Siligraphen/g-C3N4 nanocomposites as the novel nanofillers for improving the thermal and mechanical properties of fluoroelastomer

Somayeh Darvishi et al.

Summary: Novel nano-filled fluoroelastomer composites with excellent thermal and mechanical properties were prepared using Siligraphene, g-C3N4, and Siligraphene/g-C3N4 composites. The nanocomposites showed improved tensile properties of FKM before and after exposure to heat aging test, with Si and N dopants enhancing the reinforcement of properties. Overall, the nanofillers provided better adhesion with FKM matrix, forming a cellulation structure that improved mechanical properties and prevented rubber decomposition at high temperatures.
