Investigation of the Compatibility and Damping Performance of Graphene Oxide Grafted Antioxidant/Nitrile-Butadiene Rubber Composite: Insights from Experiment and Molecular Simulation

Meng Song et al.

Summary: In this study, an anti-migration antioxidant (GO-4010NA) was successfully prepared by grafting antioxidant 4010NA onto graphene oxide (GO). Experimental results showed that GO-4010NA had good compatibility with nitrile-butadiene rubber (NBR) matrix and improved the damping performance. GO-4010NA/NBR composites exhibited the smallest free volume fraction and the largest binding energy, indicating strong interaction between GO-4010NA and NBR due to the formation of hydrogen bonds.

p-Phenylenediamine Antioxidants in PM2.5: The Underestimated Urban Air Pollutants

Yanhao Zhang et al.

Summary: The use and wear of rubber products lead to the release of p-phenylenediamine (PPD) antioxidants in the environment. However, there is limited research on the pollution characteristics and potential health risks of PM2.5-bound PPDs. This study reports the widespread distribution of six emerging PPDs and a quinone derivative, 6PPDQ, in PM2.5 from urban areas of China. The study suggests that urban vehicle rubber tire abrasion contributes to the presence of PPDs in PM2.5.

Biomass antioxidant silica supported tea polyphenols with green and high-efficiency free radical capturing activity for rubber composites

Xiaohui Guo et al.

Summary: Achieving both environmental protection and high-efficiency rubber antioxidant remains a significant and long-term challenge in the green rubber industry. A novel biomass antioxidant (silica-s-TP) was synthesized by supporting green tea polyphenols on silica, exhibiting remarkable anti-aging functionality. The hybrid particles of silica-s-TP were uniformly dispersed in the rubber matrix, leading to enhanced anti-aging properties and surpassing the performance of commercial antioxidants. Interestingly, the silica-s-TP showed better free radical scavenging activities and stability in the rubber matrix compared to directly added polyphenols, thanks to the chemical anchor on silica surface. This clay surface treatment technology with natural antioxidants may open a new pathway for the preparation of green and eco-friendly rubber additives.
