Morphological, mechanical, and thermal properties of PP/SEBS/talc composites

Carlos Ivan Ribeiro de Oliveira et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of experimental variables on the properties of polypropylene, focusing on the dispersion of small rubber droplets, uniform dispersion of SEBS and talc particles, and the nucleating effect of talc on PP crystallization properties. The inclusion of talc in PP/SEBS blends significantly increased impact resistance, while the good dispersion and distribution of the mineral filler contributed to enhance impact properties. Tensile properties in the elastic region were not significantly affected by the addition of talc.

Xiaoyan Wang et al.

Summary: By adding spherical SiO2 nanoparticles to TPUU, the mechanical, thermal, and thermomechanical properties of the material were significantly improved, with the effects being more pronounced for smaller particle sizes. Furthermore, incorporating hollow spherical SiO2 particles led to unique stress-strain behavior and increased elongations at break for the TPUU nanocomposites.

A study of reusability assessment and thermal behaviors for thermoplastic composite materials after melting process: Polypropylene/ thermoplastic polyurethane blends

Ting An Lin et al.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the synergistic effect between thermoplastic materials and discuss the compatibilized effect, particularly caused by polypropylene grafted maleic anhydride (MA). The addition of MA improves the thermal stability of the PP/TTPU blend, with an average increase of 5 degrees C in the third thermal degradation temperature. The SEM images demonstrate that the incorporation of TTPU enhances the toughness of the surface, leading to greater interfacial compatibility and better adhesion between PP and TTPU.

Comparative study on the selective laser sintering of polypropylene homopolymer and copolymer: processability, crystallization kinetics, crystal phases and mechanical properties

Lisa Jiaying Tan et al.

Summary: Isotactic polypropylene homopolymer and copolymer were compared in terms of their processability in selective laser sintering, with copolymer being less tolerant to temperature deviations and more prone to warping. Both types of polypropylene materials showed less sensitivity to temperature fluctuations close to their crystallization temperatures. The ultimate tensile strength and elongation at break values for printed specimens were 14.9 MPa and 1%, and 19.5 MPa and 207% respectively.

Mechanical properties stability of Jinan black granite particulate-filled polymer composite at different temperatures

Jicai Yin et al.

Summary: This research systematically investigated the effects of temperature on the mechanical properties and failure mechanism of PFPC. It was found that the compressive strength and flexural strength of PFPC decreased significantly at higher temperatures, with a change in failure mode from aggregate fracture to interface failure. Surface treatment of aggregates with sodium hydroxide was shown to improve the interface bonding strength and enhance the mechanical properties stability of PFPC exposed to elevated temperatures.

Sharika T. Nair et al.

Summary: The study found that multiwalled carbon nanotubes significantly improved the tensile toughness and impact strength of polypropylene/natural rubber blends, especially at a 5wt% concentration. The toughening effect of MWCNTs was more pronounced in composites with co-continuous morphologies (50PP/50NR) compared to those with matrix-droplet (80PP/20NR) morphologies.

Incorporation of Recycled Polypropylene and Fly Ash in Polypropylene-Based Composites for Automotive Applications

Mojtaba Ajorloo et al.

Summary: The study investigated the feasibility of utilizing waste materials such as recycled Polypropylene (PP) and fly ash in auto parts formulation. It was found that using recycled PP in composites affects mechanical properties but can lead to improvements in tensile strength due to better filler dispersion. The hybrid system of recycled PP and fly ash offers advantages in cost reduction and sustainable production.
