Preparation and cellular uptake behaviors of uniform fiber-like micelles with length controllability and high colloidal stability in aqueous media

Junyu Ma et al.

Summary: In this study, uniform fiber-like micelles composed of a pi-conjugated oligo(p-phenylenevinylene) core and a crosslinking silica shell with grafted poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) chains were generated using living crystalline-driven self-assembly. These micelles exhibited excellent dispersity and colloidal stability, even in different aqueous solutions and elevated temperatures. Furthermore, the micelles showed low cytotoxicity and demonstrated length-dependent cellular uptake behaviors. These findings provide a promising approach for the preparation of uniform, colloidally stable fiber-like nanostructures with tunable length and functions for biomedical applications.

Investigating the influence of block copolymer micelle length on cellular uptake and penetration in a multicellular tumor spheroid model

Qing Yu et al.

Summary: The physicochemical properties of drug nanocarriers, such as size, shape, and surface chemistry, play a crucial role in their efficient penetration into tumor tissues. Rigid rod-like micelles with uniform width and varied lengths were found to exhibit significant cell uptake and penetration into multicellular tumor spheroids, with elongated micelles showing deeper penetration. However, the extent and depth of tumor penetration decreased with increasing aspect ratio of the rod-like micelles, indicating a shape-dependent effect on cellular uptake and penetration.
