Poly-L-Arginine Molecule Properties in Simple Electrolytes: Molecular Dynamic Modeling and Experiments

Maria Morga et al.

Summary: The physicochemical properties of poly-L-arginine (P-Arg) molecules in NaCl solutions were investigated using molecular dynamics (MD) modeling and experimental techniques. The molecule conformations, length, and diameter were theoretically calculated and used to interpret experimental data on secondary structure, diffusion coefficient, hydrodynamic diameter, and electrophoretic mobility. The study also proposed a method for determining the molar mass, hydrodynamic diameter, radius of gyration, and sedimentation coefficient of P-Arg samples.

Liquid-Liquid Phase Separation Bridges Physics, Chemistry, and Biology

Jun Zhu et al.

Summary: There is a fundamental gap between the complexity of biology and the simplicity sought by physicists and chemists, which could potentially be bridged by liquid-liquid phase separation. This process can produce condensed droplets that are compositionally simple yet functionally complex, offering a glimpse into the complexity of biology and the potential for interdisciplinary advancements in understanding LLPS.
