Chronic bronchitis and emphysema among workers exposed to dust, vapors, or fumes by industry and occupation

Brent Doney et al.

Summary: The study found that workplace exposures may be associated with high prevalence of chronic bronchitis and emphysema in certain industry and occupational groups. Early diagnosis and identifying associated workplace exposures are important steps in preventing chronic bronchitis and emphysema.

Indoor Air Pollution and the Health of Vulnerable Groups: A Systematic Review Focused on Particulate Matter (PM), Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and Their Effects on Children and People with Pre-Existing Lung Disease

Tun Z. Maung et al.

Summary: Air pollution indoors has a significant impact on health, with volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and particulate matter (PM) being the main pollutants. Building materials and indoor activities contribute to indoor air pollution. Personal exposure is influenced by indoor and outdoor pollutant levels, as well as home characteristics and air exchange rates. PM is associated with respiratory health issues, while VOCs are linked to upper airway symptoms and cancer. Interventional studies in the future can focus on modifying human behavior, using air purifiers, increasing ventilation, and addressing building materials and household products to reduce indoor air pollution.

Triple primary lung cancer: a case report

Hye Sook Choi et al.

Summary: This case report highlights the presence of triple lung cancers with different histologic types in different sites in a 76-year-old parking attendant. Along with traditional risk factors for lung cancer, automobile exhaust fumes containing carcinogens are also identified as a risk factor. New masses appearing after lung cancer treatment may suggest multiple primary lung cancers rather than metastasis, emphasizing the importance of precise evaluation.

Human Rev1 relies on insert-2 to promote selective binding and accurate replication of stabilized G-quadruplex motifs

Amit Ketkar et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that human Rev1 exhibits stronger affinity for parallel-stranded G4 structures, with amino acids in the alpha E helix of insert-2 identified as crucial for G4 binding. Mutations affecting G4 binding affinity were observed, with Pyridostatin exacerbating the increase in G4 mutation frequency. Wild-type and E466K hRev1 partially rescued mutagenic replication of G4 DNA, while E466A or Y470A mutants failed to suppress the PDS-induced increase in G4 mutation frequency.
