Quality of life in primary aldosteronism: A prospective observational study

Fabrizio Buffolo et al.

Summary: Previous studies have shown that patients with primary aldosteronism (PA) have impaired quality of life compared to the general population. However, a direct comparison with patients with essential hypertension (EH) has not been conducted before. This study found that both surgical and medical treatments can significantly improve the quality of life for PA patients, while EH patients only experience minimal improvement in some domains after optimization of blood pressure control.

Jordana B. Cohen et al.

Summary: The study found that testing rates for primary aldosteronism were low among U.S. Veterans, but those who were tested were more likely to receive evidence-based treatment and achieve better blood pressure control over time.

Therapeutic Outcomes with Surgical and Medical Management of Primary Aldosteronism

Heather Wachtel et al.

Summary: Primary aldosteronism (PA) is the most common cause of secondary hypertension, and delays in diagnosis and treatment can lead to cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Surgical treatment (such as adrenalectomy) may be more effective than medical treatment (such as MRA) and can reduce the occurrence of atrial fibrillation, heart failure, stroke, and chronic kidney disease.

Tolerability and Efficacy of Long-Term Medical Therapy in Primary Aldosteronism

Fengjie Tang et al.

Summary: PA patients treated with medical therapy showed improvement in blood pressure control, potassium levels, and renin levels. Unilateral PA patients had higher spironolactone doses and more side effects compared to bilateral PA. Surgery remains a preferable option for unilateral PA, providing better control with fewer long-term side effects.
