Antenatal maternal anxiety, maternal sensitivity and toddlers' behavioral problems: An investigation of possible pathways

Alessandra Frigerio et al.

Summary: The study found that maternal antenatal trait anxiety was associated with internalizing problems, but not externalizing problems. Interestingly, maternal sensitivity moderated the association between antenatal trait anxiety and externalizing problems. On the other hand, antenatal maternal depression was significantly associated with toddlers' negative affectivity.

Factor structure of the parental reflective functioning questionnaire and association with maternal postpartum depression and comorbid symptoms of psychopathology

Katrine I. Wendelboe et al.

Summary: Parental reflective functioning (PRF) refers to parents' ability to understand the mental states of their infants and themselves as parents, linking these mental processes with behavior for effective parenting. This study explored the factor structure and measurement invariance of the Danish version of the 18-item Parental Reflective Functioning Questionnaire (PRFQ) in mothers with and without postpartum depression. Results showed impaired PRF is associated with maternal psychopathology, especially for mothers with postpartum depression.

Examining the Effectiveness of Circle of Security Parenting (COS-P): A Multi-Site Non-Randomized Study with Waitlist Control

Anne-Marie Maxwell et al.

Summary: The Circle of Security Parenting (COS-P) program, informed by attachment theory, showed significant improvements in parental mentalizing, self-efficacy, empathy, affection, caregiving helplessness, hostility, and depression symptoms for mothers. Older children's mothers experienced the greatest reduction in caregiving helplessness, while mothers with probable clinical depression pre-intervention showed the greatest reductions in hostility and depression symptoms. Treatment group fathers showed similar patterns of change as mothers.
