Gene expression profiling reveals transcription factor networks and subgenome bias during Brassica napus seed development

Deirdre Khan et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the global gene expression landscape of Brassica napus throughout its reproductive lifecycle, revealing the contributions of each subgenome to plant reproduction and identifying BZIP11 as a transcriptional regulator of early seed development. Subgenome-specific transcription factor networks enriched in distinct transcription factor families were found in the A(n) and C-n subgenomes early in seed development. Subgenome bias was observed in gene expression throughout seed development, with regulators encoded by the A(n) subgenome primarily expressed in the seed coat and those encoded by the C-n subgenome primarily in the embryo.

Tissue-specific mRNA profiling of the Brassica napus-Sclerotinia sclerotiorum interaction uncovers novel regulators of plant immunity

Philip L. Walker et al.

Summary: This study investigated the response of different tissue layers of B. napus to infection by the fungal pathogen S. sclerotiorum. The results showed that the epidermis, mesophyll, and vascular tissue layers all activate specific and shared gene sets in response to pathogen infection. In addition, candidate genes associated with plant immunity against pathogen attack were identified.

Replaying the evolutionary tape to investigate subgenome dominance in allopolyploid Brassica napus

Kevin A. Bird et al.

Summary: The study found that in the evolution of Brassica napus allopolyploids, one subgenome consistently exhibited dominance in gene expression across all lines and generations. Gene network analysis revealed enrichment in network interactions and biological functions for the dominant subgenome from Brassica oleracea, but not for the subgenome from Brassica rapa. Additionally, differences in gene expression and DNA methylation between subgenomes were observed, suggesting that subgenome dominance is influenced by differences in parental genomes.

Alternative splicing dynamics and evolutionary divergence during embryogenesis in wheat species

Peng Gao et al.

Summary: Research indicates that there is diversity in the regulation of alternative splicing in polyploid wheat and grass species, not only showing differences in different tissues but also between subgenomes. Analysis of homoeologous triads in polyploid wheat reveals evolutionary divergence in the regulation of embryogenesis between gene-level and transcript-level.
