Cardioprotective effects of alantolactone on isoproterenol-induced cardiac injury and cobalt chloride-induced cardiomyocyte injury

Miaomiao Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, the cardioprotective effects of alantolactone (AL) were investigated in both in vivo and in vitro models. AL was found to attenuate myocardial infarction (MI) injury and hypoxic/ischemic (H/I) injury by reducing oxidative stress, apoptosis, calcium overload, and mitochondria damage. The protective effects of AL may be related to its direct inhibition of L-type calcium current (ICa-L).

Mechanisms of cinnamic aldehyde against myocardial ischemia/hypoxia injury in vivo and in vitro: Involvement of regulating PI3K/AKT signaling pathway

Bin Zheng et al.

Summary: The study found that cinnamic aldehyde (CA) has a protective effect against myocardial ischemia/hypoxia (I/H) injury. In mice and in vitro cell models, CA improved electrocardiogram and histopathological changes, reduced myocardial injury markers and oxidative stress levels, and decreased cell apoptosis. Furthermore, CA activated the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway, down-regulated Caspase-3 and Bax protein expressions, and up-regulated Bcl-2 protein expression, further exerting its cardioprotective effect.

Cognitive impairment in myocardial infarction and heart failure

Kewarin Jinawong et al.

Summary: Myocardial infarction leads to cognitive impairment, anxiety, depression, and memory loss in heart failure patients, with the main cause being cardiac systolic dysfunction resulting in reduced cerebral perfusion. Various studies have identified neurohormonal activation, oxidative stress, inflammation, glial activation, dendritic spine loss, and brain cell death as potential contributors to cognitive decline in heart failure. Further research into the effects of different medications on brain pathology in myocardial infarction models has also been reported.
