Anemoside B4 ameliorates TNBS-induced colitis through S100A9/MAPK/NF-κB signaling pathway

Yong Zhang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that anemoside B4 ameliorated TNBS-induced colitis symptoms by inhibiting tissue damage, inflammatory cell infiltration, pro-inflammatory cytokine production, apoptosis, and slowed proliferation in colon. Quantitative proteomic analyses revealed that anemoside B4 significantly altered 56 proteins in TNBS-induced rats, with a focus on proteins related to TCA cycle and respiratory electron transport chain. S100A9, one of the most significantly down-regulated proteins, was associated with NF-kappa B and MAPK signaling pathways in UC pathogenesis.

Chinese Herbs and Repurposing Old Drugs as Therapeutic Agents in the Regulation of Oxidative Stress and Inflammation in Pulmonary Diseases

Chien-Chung Yang et al.

Summary: The pathogenesis of inflammatory diseases is associated with pro-inflammatory factors, ROS, bacterial toxins, and viruses. Oxidative stress plays a role in maintaining cellular redox balance, but excessive ROS production is often induced by excessive stimulation of the mitochondrial electron transport chain and xanthine oxidase, leading to inflammation.

Expression of long non-coding RNA LUCAT1 in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and its potential functions in regulating cigarette smoke extract-induced 16HBE cell proliferation and apoptosis

Shan Zhao et al.

Summary: The study randomly selected non-smokers, smokers (non-COPD), and COPD patients in an established COPD surveillance cohort. LncRNA LUCAT1 was found to be upregulated in the serum of COPD patients, showing a strong correlation with inflammatory cytokines and the potential for COPD diagnosis. The study also revealed that the LncRNA LUCAT1/miR-181-5p/Wnt/beta-catenin axis played a critical role in COPD development, providing new insights for clinical treatment.

Epithelial Barrier Dysfunction in Chronic Respiratory Diseases

Francois M. Carlier et al.

Summary: Mucosal surfaces are protected by epithelial cells, which form a complex module to defend against external threats such as toxins and pathogens. Chronic diseases can disrupt the function of the epithelial barrier, leading to impaired protection. Understanding the mechanisms behind epithelial barrier abnormalities is crucial for future therapeutic approaches.
