4,5-Seco-5,10-friedo-abietane-type diterpenoids with anticancer activity fromSalvia atropatanaBunge

Abolfazl Shakeri et al.

Summary: This study isolated the petroleum ether fraction from the roots of Salvia atropatana for the first time, showing growth inhibition and apoptosis induction in MCF-7 and PC3 cells. The most cytotoxic compound, a new abietane-type diterpenoid named atropatanene, exhibited significant cytotoxicity against PC3 cells. Bioassay-guided isolation methods were used to identify compounds with high cytotoxicity.

Tanshinone IIA: A Review of its Anticancer Effects

Zhong-ying Fang et al.

Summary: Tanshinone IIA (Tan IIA) is a pharmacologically lipophilic active constituent isolated from the roots and rhizomes of the Chinese medicinal herb Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge. It has been used in China and neighboring countries for treating various diseases, including cancer. Current research on the anticancer effects and mechanisms of Tan IIA is relatively scattered, but it shows promising potential in cancer treatment.

Diterpenoids from Zhumeria majdae roots as potential heat shock protein 90 (HSP90) modulators

Reza Zadali et al.

Summary: This study isolated 21 diterpenoids from the roots of Zhumeria majdae, including 4 undescribed compounds. These compounds showed anti-proliferative activity against cancer cells, with one compound binding to HSP90. Experimental and computational tests were conducted to explain the mechanism of action.
