Mechanism of cotton resistance to abiotic stress, and recent research advances in the osmoregulation related genes

Shah Saud et al.

Summary: Abiotic stress is a crucial factor that affects plant growth, especially for cotton. This paper analyzes the material basis and physiological functions of cotton resistance at the molecular level and discusses the research progress of recombining resistance genes using genetic engineering methods, aiming to provide reference for future resistance research.

Potassium application alleviates the negative effects of salt stress on cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) yield by improving the ionic homeostasis, photosynthetic capacity and carbohydrate metabolism of the leaf subtending the cotton boll

Feiyan Ju et al.

Summary: Field experiments in 2017 and 2018 investigated the effects of potassium application on photosynthetic capacity and carbohydrate metabolism of the leaf subtending the cotton boll under salt stress. Results showed that potassium application increased potassium/sodium ratio, improved net photosynthetic rates, and decreased soluble sugar, sucrose and starch concentrations. This study provides insights into how potassium fertilizer can regulate cotton leaf properties and metabolism under salt stress.
