A Transcriptomic Analysis of Stylo [Stylosanthes guianensis (Aubl.) Sw.] Provides Novel Insights Into the Basis of Salinity Tolerance

Yiming Liu et al.

Summary: This study screened the salinity tolerance of 84 accessions of Stylosanthes guianensis and identified a saline-tolerant accession and a saline-sensitive accession. The verification experiments showed that the tolerant accession exhibited better performance and adaptability under salinity stress. RNA-Seq analysis revealed the key gene expression changes related to Ca2+ signal transduction, Na+ transport, antioxidant ability, and auxin regulation in the tolerant accession. These findings contribute to our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying the response of Stylosanthes guianensis to salinity stress.

The NAC-type transcription factor CaNAC46 regulates the salt and drought tolerance of transgenic Arabidopsis thaliana

Jing Ma et al.

Summary: CaNAC46 is an important transcription factor that regulates plant resistance to abiotic stresses such as drought and salinity by activating ROS-scavenging enzymes and enhancing root formation. The regulatory mechanisms controlling this NAC transcription factor appear to be conserved between Arabidopsis thaliana and pepper.

Spermine: Its Emerging Role in Regulating Drought Stress Responses in Plants

Md. Mahadi Hasan et al.

Summary: Research on spermine (Spm) in recent years has shown its significant role in protecting plants from environmental stresses, particularly drought. Spm enhances antioxidant defense mechanisms and improves drought tolerance in plants by interacting with molecules such as nitric oxide and various phytohormones. The complex interactions of Spm with enzyme activity and osmoregulation, as well as its coordination with other molecules, contribute to improving plant tolerance to drought stress.

Transcriptome of Cenostigma pyramidale roots, a woody legume, under different salt stress times

Gabriella Frosi et al.

Summary: The study revealed that Cenostigma pyramidale has the ability to perceive and regulate ion channels and transporters in response to salt stress at early stages, with a shift towards focusing on the antioxidant system, aquaporins, and hormone responses as the stress progresses. Five selected DEGs were validated through qPCR, providing insights on how this native species modulates gene expression to achieve salt stress tolerance.

Benefits to Plant Health and Productivity From Enhancing Plant Microbial Symbionts

Gary Harman et al.

Summary: Enhanced Plant Holobionts (EPHs) refer to crop plants with introduced organisms in their roots, which exhibit improved disease and pest resistance, stress tolerance, nutrient acquisition, photosynthetic capability, and cellular functioning. Microbes in EPHs produce Symbiont-Associated Molecular Patterns (SAMPs) that interact with plant cell receptors, leading to systemic signaling and plant-wide changes. Benefits from EPHs also come from interactions between microbes, such as competition, mycoparasitism, and antibiotic production, ultimately increasing plant yield and carbon sequestration potential.
