Dynamic delayed detached-eddy simulation and acoustic analogy analysis of unsteady flow through a sudden expansion pipe

Fuqi Li et al.

Summary: The unsteady flow through a sudden expansion pipe with an expansion ratio of 1:3 is numerically modeled using dynamic delayed detached-eddy simulation (dynamic DDES). The flow noise mechanism and the downstream noise propagation behaviors are analyzed using Lighthill's acoustic analogy. The study identifies acoustic quadrupoles in the high-shear flow region and acoustic dipoles on the expansion and downstream walls as the acoustic sources. The noise propagation behavior is closely related to the SPL distributions on the downstream wall.

Hydrodynamic and acoustic pressure fluctuations in water pipes due to an orifice: Comparison of measurements with Large Eddy Simulations

Shravan Kottapalli et al.

Summary: This article investigates the turbulent wall pressure fluctuations caused by flow through single-hole sharp-square-edged orifices in a water filled pipe. Measurements and simulations show that the vena-contracta factors of the orifices are dependent on Reynolds numbers. The LES simulations provide a good prediction of the near-field hydrodynamic wall pressure fluctuations, while upstream and far downstream wall pressure fluctuations are dominated by acoustic pressure fluctuations.

Unsteady flow behaviors and noise source identification of a ducted orifice using detached-eddy simulation

Fuqi Li et al.

Summary: In this study, turbulent flow through a ducted orifice was numerically modeled to investigate its unsteady flow behaviors and noise generation mechanisms. The results showed that the main noise sources were energetic acoustic dipoles on the orifice's leading and trailing faces, resulting from the intermittent interaction between the unsteady flow and the orifice plate. The study also compared different orifice configurations and found distinct flow structures and noise characteristics at different thicknesses and porosities.

Unsteady analysis of turbulent flow and heat transfer behind a wall-proximity square rib using dynamic delayed detached-eddy simulation

Fuqi Li et al.

Summary: The present study numerically modeled turbulent wall heat transfer behind a wall-proximity square rib using dynamic delayed detached-eddy simulations to clarify unsteady flow behaviors and their influence on wall heat transfer. The interaction between different flow structures was found to significantly affect wall heat transfer, demonstrating distinctive characteristics with varying wall gap configurations.
