Summary: The study aims to develop a treatment planning process for non-isocentric DTRT and validate its dosimetric accuracy. By comparing three use cases, it is found that non-isocentric DTRT offers versatile benefits such as reducing collision risk, shortening delivery time, and improving dosimetric plan quality.

TriB-RT: Simultaneous optimization of photon, electron and proton beams

R. Kueng et al.

Summary: A novel treatment planning process was developed to optimize modulated photon, electron, and proton beams simultaneously, resulting in improved treatment plan quality in radiotherapy. In-house optimized IMPT plans showed at least equal or better quality compared to commercial TPS-generated proton plans, and MC-based optimization demonstrated dosimetric advantages in inhomogeneous situations. The TriB-RT approach showed substantial dose contributions from all particle types and achieved improved sparing of organs at risk in clinically motivated cases compared to IMPT.

DeepMC: a deep learning method for efficient Monte Carlo beamlet dose calculation by predictive denoising in magnetic resonance-guided radiotherapy

Ryan Neph et al.

Summary: Emerging MR-guided radiotherapy improves anatomy visualization for personalized treatment, but demands acceleration of dose calculation. DeepMC, a deep learning method, predicts low-noise dose from noisy MC simulations to speed up large-scale dose calculation in the presence of a strong magnetic field. This approach also reduces noise and predicts dose buildup issues, showing significant acceleration in treatment planning accuracy.

Ion chamber and film-based quality assurance of mixed electron-photon radiation therapy

Veng Jean Heng et al.

Summary: The study successfully validated the delivery process of mixed electron-photon radiation therapy (MBRT) on a Varian TrueBeam accelerator and laid the foundation for a patient-specific quality assurance (QA) protocol based on ion chamber point measurements and 2D film measurements. The results showed good agreement between measured and simulated MBRT doses, indicating that the dose distributions obtained from the MBRT treatment planning algorithm are achievable in practice. Further investigation is needed to confirm the accuracy of ionization chamber correction factors kMBRT calculations at low electron energies.
