Chemistry and physics of dopants embedded in helium droplets

Simon Albertini et al.

Summary: This review summarizes the development of experimental techniques and methods for studying helium droplets, which provide an ideal environment for growing complexes and clusters under conditions that mimic cold and dense regions of the interstellar medium. Recent results enabled by these techniques have shed light on barrierless reactions triggered by radicals or ions at sub-Kelvin temperatures.

Femtosecond Rotational Dynamics of D2 Molecules in Superfluid Helium Nanodroplets

Junjie Qiang et al.

Summary: The rotational dynamics of D-2 molecules inside helium nanodroplets were investigated by measuring the yield of HeD+ ions as a function of time. The results show that the rotational behavior of D-2 molecules in helium nanodroplets is similar to that of isolated D-2 molecules.

Full quantum time-dependent simulations for the two-body breakups of H2Ar2+ and N2Ar2+

Xiaoqing Hu et al.

Summary: In this study, a quantum time-dependent wave-packet evolution method was developed to simulate the multibody breakups of polyatomic molecular ions. The results show that ultrafast rotations of molecular fragments occur during the breakup process, and these rotations are influenced by various interactions such as polycentric interaction and vibration-rotation/rotation-rotation couplings.

Enhancement of Above Threshold Ionization in Resonantly Excited Helium Nanodroplets

R. Michiels et al.

Summary: Clusters and nanodroplets have the potential to enhance high-order nonlinear optical effects due to their high local density, but only moderate enhancement has been achieved so far. By using ultrashort extreme ultraviolet (XUV) free-electron laser pulses to resonantly excite helium (He) nanodroplets, a significant increase in energetic electron emission compared to He atoms has been observed. This suggests a local collective enhancement effect dependent on the number of excitations in the droplets.

Observation of laser-assisted electron scattering in superfluid helium

Leonhard Treiber et al.

Summary: The study reports the observation of laser-assisted electron scattering (LAES) in condensed-phase helium droplets, where free electrons gain increased energy due to multiple LAES events within the droplets. The findings provide insights into the interplay of LAES energy gain/loss and dissipative electron movement in a liquid.
