Parametric amplification in lossy nonlinear waveguides with spatially dependent coupling

Vitor Ribeiro et al.

Summary: We have conducted an analytical and numerical study on optical parametric amplification in coupled waveguides amplifiers, taking into account the presence of losses and spatially dependent coupling. Our results indicate that spatially dependent coupling can dynamically compensate for mismatch caused by pump attenuation, leading to improved performances in terms of bandwidth and bandwidth-gain product compared to standard single-waveguide solutions. This study provides effective insights for the design of a novel class of parametric amplifiers and holds particular relevance for integrated silicon nitride devices.

Parametric Amplification and Wavelength Conversion in Dual-Core Highly Nonlinear Fibers

Vitor Ribeiro et al.

Summary: In this paper, we experimentally demonstrate parametric amplification and wavelength conversion in a custom manufactured dual-core highly nonlinear fiber. The on-off gain exceeds 10 dB and the measured conversion efficiencies range from -1 dB to -8.5 dB for both cores. The estimated effective nonlinear parameters for the fiber cores are 6.6W(-1)km(-1) and 6.3W(-1)km(-1), with relatively close zero-dispersion wavelengths. Additionally, analytical and numerical results show that coupled cores fiber optical parametric amplifiers have the potential for wide-band gain even with significantly distinct zero-dispersion wavelengths.

Four-wave mixing and coherently coupled Schrodinger equations: Cascading processes and Fermi-Pasta-Ulam-Tsingou recurrence

H. M. Yin et al.

Summary: Modulation instability, breather formation, and the Fermi-Pasta-Ulam-Tsingou recurrence (FPUT) phenomena are studied in nonlinear systems arising from slightly anisotropic media. The Darboux transformation is used to calculate a class of breathers, and a cascading mechanism is utilized to elucidate the initial stages of FPUT. An analytical formula for breather formation in a two-waveguide system is proposed, showing excellent agreement with numerical simulations.

Breathers, cascading instabilities and Fermi-Pasta-Ulam-Tsingou recurrence of the derivative nonlinear Schrodinger equation: Effects of 'self-steepening' nonlinearity

H. M. Yin et al.

Summary: Breathers, modulation instability, and recurrence phenomena are studied in the derivative nonlinear Schrodinger equation with second order dispersion, cubic nonlinearity, and self-steepening effect. Numerical simulations and theoretical analysis reveal the significant role of self-steepening effect in the dynamics and chaotic behavior of Fourier coefficients.
