Effect of substitutional doping and disorder on the phase stability, magnetism, and half-metallicity of Heusler alloys

Nikolai A. A. Zarkevich et al.

Summary: Spintronics is a rapidly growing field, and Heusler alloys are potential candidates for spintronic applications. This study investigates the effect of doping and disorder on the properties of Heusler alloys using density functional theory methods. The researchers propose a design guide based on electron count, which can accelerate the development and synthesis of novel Heusler alloys.

Characterization of quaternary Heusler alloys CoFeYGe (Y = Ti, Cr) with respect to structural, electronic, magnetic, mechanical, and thermoelectric features

Zoulikha Charifi et al.

Summary: The electronic, magnetic, elastic, and thermoelectric properties of CoFeYGe (Y = Ti, Cr) quaternary Heusler compounds were studied using DFT simulations. It was found that both alloys have a Type-I atomic configuration and display half-metallic behavior in the minority spin channels. CoFeCrGe has a higher magnetic moment compared to CoFeTiGe, and both compounds are mechanically stable. This study suggests that CoFeCrGe and CoFeTiGe have exceptional spintronic and thermoelectric properties.

Summary: This study investigates the structural, electronic, magnetic, elastic, and thermal properties of Co-based Quaternary Heusler alloys using Wien2k code. The alloys are stable in Type-III crystal structure, exhibit metallic or nearly half-metal character, and follow the Slater-Pauling rule for magnetic moments. They also show good mechanical and thermal stability.
